400 metric tonnes of seasonal debris to maintain a cleaner Düsseldorf.
Düsseldorf, the vibrant city on the Rhine, has launched a new cleanliness campaign this spring to maintain the pristine beauty of its leisure areas and the iconic river. The environmental and Consumer Protection Agency is spearheading the initiative, encouraging residents and visitors to report dirty areas and contribute to the city's cleanliness efforts.
Jochen Kral, Düsseldorf's environmental and mobility chief, emphasised the importance of cleanliness in the city, stating that measures are being taken to improve cleanliness in Düsseldorf and raise awareness of a clean environment. He expressed gratitude towards voluntary litter collection initiatives, groups, and individuals who have contributed to the city's cleanliness.
As part of the campaign, 260 additional 120-liter bins have been placed along the Rhine, primarily in parks and popular leisure spots. These new bins come equipped with the seasonal bins' traditional slogans, such as "Feed me" and "Here and there," complemented by new catchy phrases like "What's up, it's up," "We'll take care of the rest," "For our Rhine," "Green keeper," and "Party's over."
The reporting app, "Düsseldorf bleibt sauber," is also available for Android and Apple devices, making it easier for users to report litter issues. The app offers pre-selected reporting categories in the menu and allows photos and GPS location data to be uploaded, helping waste collectors to find and address the issues promptly.
In addition to the existing year-round waste bins, approximately 110 seasonal bins will be placed in heavily frequented parks such as Rheinpark, Volksgarten, and Hofgarten. Around 30 seasonal bins will also be at the Angermunder Baggersee. To further emphasise the campaign's focus on the Rhine, all seasonal bins along the river will have a red motif sticker.
The seasonal bins are part of an appeal to those seeking recreation to keep the leisure areas clean. With the number of visitors to leisure areas in parks and along the Rhine increasing with the improving weather, it is essential to ensure that these spaces remain clean and welcoming for everyone.
Residents can report dirty areas directly to the Stadtsauberkeit service telephone of the Environmental and Consumer Protection Agency by calling 0211-8925050 from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4 pm, or by emailing [email protected].
