A 3D countdown calendar for the festive season
In the festive spirit, we've transformed a Kaisercraft Beyond the Page MDF advent calendar into a beautiful holiday centrepiece. Here's a step-by-step guide on how we did it.
The calendar, measuring 13x13'', comes flat packed and requires assembly with wood glue and a craft knife. We started by preparing the MDF surface, lightly sanding it to remove any rough edges and priming it with a base coat.
Next, we painted a pre-cut balsa wood tree white and glued it in the middle section of the calendar. Two jingle bells were hung from silver thread in the same section, adding a touch of Christmas cheer. Glitter pom poms and a gift bow were also added to the middle section, while glitter glue was used to cover the joins of the drawers for a more cohesive look.
To add texture and dimension, we used ribbon and gems on the three little gift boxes on the calendar. A template was used for the boxes, ensuring precision in their placement. The sides of the drawers were covered with different types of colored paper, each one adding a pop of colour to the overall design.
For the back, we backed the middle section with Christmas paper, creating a surprise reveal when the calendar is opened. Stickers were used instead of cardboard numbers on the front, giving the calendar a more polished finish.
