A Fresh Assembly of Esoteric Literature on Art and Design: The Further Reading Library

In the world of fine art publishing, a newcomer is about to make its mark. The Further Reading Library, an intriguing imprint, is set to release its first five titles in April 2025.

Established in collaboration by Christine Burgin, an artist and publisher, and Andrew Lambert, the imprint's focus lies on the 'strange, forgotten, and overlooked.' The books, all priced at $24.95, are designed with inspiration from the classic King Penguin series published in the UK between 1939 and 1959. They are available individually or in a slipcased set, with a uniform size and jacket color, lending them a cohesive and timeless aesthetic.

One of the titles, "Sound May Be Seen," delves into the fascinating world of Margaret Watts Hughes, a singer, philanthropist, and inventor who created the 'eidophone.' This device, with its strange, alien beauty, recorded sound waves by etching them onto glass slides.

Another title, "Some Stones Are Ancient Books," explores the enigmatic life and beliefs of Richard Sharpe Shaver, a Sci-fi author and investigator of ancient mysteries who believed that stones bore truths about ancient mythical races.

The avant-garde dance world is also represented in the library's collection, with "Lecture on Radium" focusing on Loïe Fuller, a groundbreaking dancer from the late 19th century.

Lastly, "Clavilux and Lumia" sheds light on the life and work of Thomas Wilfred, an inventor, designer, artist, and musician who exhibited at MoMA. His Clavilux and Lumia home 'light organs' have left an indelible mark on the world of art and technology.

The Further Reading Library's website can be found at FurtherReadingLibrary.com, and the imprint can be followed on Twitter at @FurtherReadingLibrary for updates and announcements. For more detailed information about the imprint and its focus, checking the imprint's official announcements, publisher press releases, or industry news from early 2025 would be recommended.

In the diverse collection of The Further Reading Library, a title exploring the home-and-garden dimension is expected, perhaps a book delving into the life and inventions of Thomas Wilfred, who left an indelible mark on art and technology with his Clavilux and Lumia home 'light organs'. Amidst the upcoming releases, a title focused on lifestyle and entertainment might also be found, perhaps a book unveiling the intriguing world of Margaret Watts Hughes, a singer, philanthropist, and inventor known for her eidophone device.
