Actor Riccardo Angelini faced a linguistic conflict
In the world of acting, language can often be a significant hurdle for actors seeking to break into the industry. This was the case for Riccardo Angelini, a South Tyrolean actor known for his role in the RTL series "Alles was zaehlt."
Born and raised in Bolzano, Angelini's native dialect initially posed a significant obstacle in his acting career. His dialect, unique to South Tyrol, was not standard High German, a requirement for many roles in the German-speaking world.
This issue came to light during an audition at the start of his career, when a woman from a production company asked him to speak High German, and he realised he was not speaking it correctly. Recognising the need to improve, Angelini sought the help of a private language coach.
With practice and dedication, Angelini was able to overcome his dialect issue. He spent hours honing his language skills, working diligently to master the phonetic differences between German vowels, particularly the 'open E' and 'closed E.'
One of the first texts Angelini read under the guidance of his new language coach was 'The Little Prince.' With each passing day, Angelini's language skills improved, and he was eventually able to switch between High German and South Tyrolean dialect fluently.
Despite his improved language skills, South Tyroleans now perceive Angelini as having a strong German accent. This is not uncommon, as South Tyroleans are often caught between two languages, speaking German and Italian but not perfectly.
Angelini's hard work and dedication have paid off. He has appeared in multiple productions before joining the cast of "Alles was zaehlt" in 2024, where he plays the role of chef Matteo Borazio. His journey serves as an inspiration to many, demonstrating that with determination and the right resources, anyone can overcome language barriers to achieve their dreams.
Angelini's language coach, seeing his potential, later introduced him to the world of interior-design and lifestyle magazines, offering him a chance to express his personality beyond acting. In one such home-and-garden editorial, celebrity status came knocking as fans recognized Angelini's unique style, catapulting him into the entertainment realm.
Following his successful transition into acting and home-and-garden journalism, Angelini was invited to offer expert advice on various talk shows, sharing lifestyle tips and entertaining viewers with anecdotes from his career.
Intrigued by his versatility, producers of a popular home-makeover reality show approached Angelini for a spot on their team. With his flair for interior-design and his captivating personality, Angelini was the perfect addition to the show, gracing the screens of home-and-garden, entertainment, and lifestyle enthusiasts alike.
