Allgäuer's breathtaking natural display is vying for recognition as Germany's wonder of the year
The Breitach Gorge, a natural beauty nestled in Tiefenbach near Oberstdorf in Bavaria, Germany, is currently leading in the race for "Natural Wonder of the Year 2025." This deepest gorge in Central Europe boasts up to 150-meter-high rock walls and a breathtaking natural landscape in the Allgäu region.
Measuring 2.2 kilometers in length, the Breitach Gorge offers an easy to medium difficulty level hike, making it accessible for many visitors. Sturdy footwear and weatherproof clothing are essential for the journey.
The Breitach Gorge was made accessible to the public in 1905, thanks to the initiative of Pastor Johannes Schiebel from Tiefenbach. Today, it attracts over 300,000 visitors to Oberstdorf every year.
Admission for adults aged 16 and above is 7.50 euros, while children between 5 and 15 pay 2.50 euros. For car drivers, a parking ticket costs 4 euros for the entire day. Tickets can be booked online in advance.
The Breitach Gorge is competing against the Karst spring Blautopf in Baden-Württemberg and other natural wonders for the title. Voting for "Natural Wonder of the Year 2025" continues until September 28th.
