Join us as we hop aboard the captivating ride of Leah Levy, a fearless skydiver and the founder of Tumbleweed Nets. This young entrepreneur has been turning heads ever since we caught wind of her ambitious endeavors this past summer. So grab hold tight and enjoy the view, because if you ain't on board yet, it's high time you climb aboard.

Jump on In, the Water's Falcon

First thing's first, a quick zero-to-sixty on Leah. Back in her teenage years, she was bitten by the adrenaline-soaked bug of skydiving, and ever since she hit 18, she's been logging jumps like a seasoned prodigy. Creativity oozes from every pore of this visionary, with a heart that beats courageously for the big leagues, and an unwavering "Yes/And" philosophy for life, as opposed to the dastardly "Yes/But". A shining example? Our very own Leah, who, as an industrious undergrad at Virginia Tech, effortlessly intertwined her Industrial Design curriculum with her unrelenting passion for the sport. No advanced degrees in rocket science here – she didn't invent the wheel, but she damn sure did reinvent the hammock, fashioning eco-friendly masterpieces from discarded parachutes that would make Mother Earth bust out with pride.

In less time than it takes to say "stay low, stay low", Leah's brainchild took the global stage, as she took the proverbial leap of faith and launched her Kickstarter campaign in late June. Raised to believe that rejection isn't a life sentence, but merely a nudge to polish her pitch, Mama Levy would be proud: Leah's campaign received a resounding "yes" from nearly 200 backers hailing from 10 countries, exceeding her ambitious goal of $25,000 by a staggering $2,800.

Tear-Ass Takeoff

To million-dollar ideas, every second counts. Thankfully, due to the crowdfunding platform's all-or-nothing nature, Leah's cash reserves weren't tapped until the finish line had been proclaimed crossed. Unwilling to twiddle her thumbs, Leah capitalized on the interim period, conducting thorough market research, formulating a comprehensive game plan, finalizing product designs, and whipping up fresh prototypes like a startup baker on a mission. The generosity of the skydiving community proved endless, as parachute and gear donations poured in – a testament to the camaraderie that defines the sport. Since her triumphant Kickstarter campaign, Leah's collection has more than tripled in size, and space constraints are becoming a tad uncomfortable – Leah stashes chutes as far as her apartment, car, and even her parents' house will permit. Standout donors include the PD Factory and Aerodyne, who demonstrate what makes this community so special – the spirit of supporting one another.

With equipment orders now in place, Leah is on the hunt for a talented team to bring Tumbleweed Nets to fruition. She anticipates recruiting three to five skilled stitchers, likely a motley crew of artists from campus, who may not have a background in skydiving, but whose eyes light up at the mere mention of the sport. Leah's vision for the company aligns seamlessly with the welcomed diversity of the skydiving community – a place where everyone is welcomed, and everyone has a lucrative contribution to make. So fly on over to the Tumbleweed Launch Party on October 6 at Skydive Orange and witness the fabric of dreams take shape.

Where We're Headed, Kid

The upcoming months are chock-full of promise for Leah. Weekends will find her at Skydive Orange as a parachute packer and camera flyer, while weekdays afford her the opportunity to focus on the horizon – including the debut of Tumbleweed's online store, representation at the Parachute Industry Association Symposium in Dallas, and yes, that ever-present goalpost known as graduation.

Some of Leah's college professors and peers expressed surprise at her decision to return to campus following her successful Kickstarter adventure. But they should have known better – a vision that fueled the creation of Tumbleweed Nets is merely the beginning; the journey traverses pathways yet unknown. Even as we speak, Leah's pineal gland is a-tingle, brewing new ideas that could change the world – well, maybe not the world, but surely the world of the outdoor enthusiast.

One such innovation is a mobile workstation, something akin to a Patagonia Worn Wear Wagon or a food truck sans the food. Leah plans to repackage this rollin' rig so that it serves as her primary workshop for crafting Tumbleweed Nets, her retail space for selling her wares, and her home base for those summer boogie events that keep us all hanging on for more. The goal is to hit the road with the mobile marvel in January and roll out the red carpet for Summer 2019.

Leah's got brains for days, heart that could warm a million souls, and courage to spare – and she's a-gonna ride this wave all the way to the sunset, and beyond.

We're all behind you, Leah. Happy trails.
