Berlin Biennale 2025: Art as a Rebellious Force

Political Art Exhibition at Berlin Biennale Standing as a Potent Symbol of Resistance - Art exhibition at Berlin Biennale presents works as assertion of political defiance

Hey there! The 13th edition of the Berlin Biennale, one of Germany's premier events for contemporary art, is all about art as a form of political rebellion. Curator Zasha Colah, at the program's unveiling in Berlin, said, "We're in a Germany shrouded by fear, where the media, cultural, and political landscapes are roiling with unrest."

War, captivity, and demands for political change

Colah, a Mumbai, India native, described this Biennale as a platform for contemplating thoughts "under the most trying circumstances." The art exhibition, commencing June 14 across four sites in Berlin, will showcase more than 170 works by over 60 artists from Myanmar, Germany, Sudan, Hungary, among others.

A fugitive's journey

Colah's vision for the Biennale is rooted in art's power to set its own rules in the face of authoritarian violence and to persist even under repression. Taking inspiration from strategies of evasion, cunning, and transmission, the show will feature a diverse array of works engaging the body and speech, such as theatrical performances, readings, live events, and stand-up comedy.

Mystery and intrigue

The full list of participating artists and the detailed program is being kept under wraps until the Biennale's opening. This cloak-and-dagger approach challenges the art market's celebrity culture and encourages viewers to confront art without prejudgments about artists or their affiliations.

Four exhibition sites

The four venues for this year's Berlin Biennale are the KW Institute for Contemporary Art, the Berliner Sophiensaele, the Hamburger Bahnhof as the National Gallery of the Present, and the Lehrter Strasse's former courthouse.

The ticket details are:- General Admission: €16- Reduced Admission: €8- Free entry for CIMAM members during preview days
