Life of Artist Oleksandra Malyshko amidst the Warzone in Ukraine: Each day, roused from restless nights dripping with bomb blasts, I ponder - "Why am I surviving, what can my art contribute?" I may not be spiritual, but I yearn to imagine a concealed realm enshrouding us, and a divine blueprint underpinning the chaos. I long to believe that we persist beyond this life - the form we assume in eternity, and how this enduring concept functions, remain shrouded in mystery for me. Ever wondered, too? Recently, I ventured to Kyiv to stay with my kin and jointly create.

Living on the Frontlines: Artist Oleksandra Malyshko's Daily Struggle

Each sleepless day, bombarded by explosions, I ponder existence and my purpose. I'm not a religious soul, but I long to believe in an immortal spirit, interweaving life's events in secret patterns. Is there a cosmic dance behind the chaos? Don't we all occasionally delve into that mystery?

Recently, I visited Kyiv to paint with relatives. It was a grueling challenge. I'll describe that adventure later, along with some snapshots. But today, I wish to share a day in the combat zone - in Dnipro.

After my brief escape, I yearned for home, for the very land where I create at plein air gatherings, collaborate with fellow artists, and organize exhibitions. Upon my return, I promptly organized an exhibition for artist Galina Shevtsova. Supporting my city's arts scene feels like a mission. Though it lacks financial rewards, it's about protecting and restoring culture in my war-torn homeland.

Here are some photos from Galina's exhibition:

Following the event, I brought the paintings home. No buyers these days - people just seek refuge at exhibitions, escaping the horrors of war. Sometimes, I take my artwork with me as I stroll, soaking up nature's solace.

One serene evening, I took several paintings to a nearby lake. The atmosphere was still and calm. I managed to capture some photos, enjoyed street food from a nearby café with my daughter, and embraced an idyllic moment. Love, peace, and tranquility ruled. Oh, how I long for these moments...

But then came the nightmares. The drones buzzed overhead, their dreadful hum haunting my dreams. Blasts echoed through the night, gunfire erupting. My daughter hid from the chaos, nestled between our apartment's metal doors. I sat near our entrance, unable to sleep. Those sleepless hours stretched on forever.

The next morning, I awoke exhausted, as if I'd finally escaped reality in my slumber. How do such discordant moments coexist? I question life, my role in it, and the horrible chaos surrounding me. I'm a painter, creating landscapes and flowers, yet destruction consumes the world. Is there any meaning left in art when darkness prevails?

Share your thoughts, dear reader. Perhaps you're a wise philosopher with answers to these questions. If so, do tell. Together, we might find hope amidst the ruins.
