Aschaffenburg Residents Invited to 'abpflastern' for Greener City
Aschaffenburg residents are invited to participate in the 'abpflastern' initiative, an online project aiming to replace sealed surfaces with greenery. The city has already started by redesigning a small square in Nilkheim.
The 'abpflastern' initiative, a nationwide competition organized by students, encourages cities to unseal surfaces and create greener urban spaces. Aschaffenburg has joined this initiative, aiming to improve the urban climate and enhance residents' quality of life.
The city has started by redesigning a small square at the corner of Buchenweg/Ulmenweg in Nilkheim. Approximately 315 sqm of sealed surface was unsealed, and a lawn, three trees, and new benches were installed. This is part of the city's participation in the nationwide 'abpflastern' initiative.
Residents are encouraged to participate by entering unsealed areas into an online portal. The three winning municipalities with the most unsealed area will be honored in November 2025, and a 'Star of the Month' project will be awarded each month. The initiative hopes to create greener urban spaces and fight climate change.
