Awarding of Cultural Prize to Barbara Baier and Peter Rothenbücher
Bayreuth Honours Two Cultural Pioneers
The city of Bayreuth, in Bavaria, Germany, has recognised the significant contributions of two local figures, Peter Rothenbacher and Barbara Baier, with the Bayreuth Municipal Culture Prize. The award ceremony took place in the Baroque Garden of Schloss Carolinenruhe, with Mayor Thomas Ebersberger presenting the awards.
Peter Rothenbacher was honoured for his work in restoring the dilapidated Schloss Birken and Carolinenruhe, now open to the public. Rothenbacher, along with his family, initiated the renovation project, and the renovations, restorations, and furnishings were primarily funded without public funds. Rothenbacher now conducts tours of the renovated Schloss Birken and Carolinenruhe.
Barbara Baier was recognised for her leadership of the regionally renowned Zamir choir. Through her work, including international performances of the choir she founded, Baier has enhanced Bayreuth's regional reputation. Baier was nominated for the culture prize by the CSU and Bayreuth Community (BG) city council factions. Gil Klemperer, a long-time member of the Zamir choir and organizer of the Ashira choir from Israel, delivered the laudation for Baier.
The Bayreuth Municipal Culture Prize, established in 1976, honours exceptional achievements in various fields, including music, literature, painting, the visual arts, and science. Dr. Peter O. Krückmann, the long-time museum referent of the Bavarian Palace Administration responsible for Bayreuth, delivered the laudation for Peter Rothenbacher.
Baier's work has also fostered the development of German-Israeli relations. Ebersberger stated that both awardees have made outstanding contributions to the cultural city of Bayreuth. The award ceremony for the Bayreuth Municipal Culture Prize took place at Schloss and Baroque Garden Carolinenruhe.
