Banks in Baden-Baden's hidden wonders revealed
New TrueWonderBenches Highlight Baden-Baden's World Heritage
In the heart of Baden-Baden, on its historic market square, two new TrueWonderBenches have been installed. These interactive information points are part of the BW World Heritage Concept, a state initiative aimed at preserving, networking, and making more tangible the cultural and architectural heritage of UNESCO World Heritage sites in Baden-Württemberg.
Minister Nicole Razavi inaugurated these benches, which are designed as places of encounter. They offer maps, text, and links about World Heritage sites in the region, enriching the city and emphasising its connection to these treasured sites.
TrueWonderBenches are not new to Baden-Württemberg. Previously, they were installed on the island of Reichenau, near the Maulbronn Monastery, and at the Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes in Osterburken, Buchen, and Walldürn.
The seven UNESCO World Heritage sites in Baden-Württemberg include the Cistercian Monastery of Maulbronn, the Island Monastery of Reichenau, the Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes, the Palaeolithic pile dwellings around the Alps, the two Le Corbusier Houses in the Stuttgart Weißenhofsiedlung, the Caves and Ice Age Art of the Swabian Alb in the Ach and Lone valleys, and Baden-Baden, under the title "Great Spa Towns of Europe".
Communities neighbouring a World Heritage site can apply to the State Office for Heritage Preservation in the Stuttgart Regional Council with a location proposal. The state government supports these sites through the BW World Heritage Concept, which also includes measures and products such as an image film, an exhibition, and a brochure, developed for implementation at all World Heritage sites in Baden-Württemberg.
Professor Dr. Claus Wolf, a notable figure in the field, emphasizes the importance of these sites, stating that they are distinguished by their exceptional universal value, authenticity, and uniqueness. The First Mayor of Baden-Baden, Alexander Wieland, shares this sentiment, believing that the TrueWonderBenches enrich the city and serve as an attractive recognition feature for these invaluable and irreplaceable heritage sites.
