Burlington Launches Call for Artists: Create Mural Honoring Robert Bateman
The City of Burlington has launched a Call for Artists, seeking expressions of interest for a community mural project at the upcoming Robert Bateman Community Centre. The deadline for submissions is Monday, September 8, 2025.
The multi-purpose centre, set to open on September 15th, will house various tenants such as Brock University, Burlington Public Library, Halton District School Board, Tech Place, and the City of Burlington. The mural project aims to celebrate the centre's namesake, renowned wildlife artist Robert Bateman, by drawing inspiration from his book 'Backyard Birds'.
Artists working in diverse styles and mediums are welcome to apply, with a budget of $15,000 CAD allocated for the design phase. The selected artist or team will create a mural that reflects their unique artistic style while paying homage to Bateman's iconic wildlife paintings.
The City of Burlington encourages professional artists and artist teams to submit their expressions of interest by the September 8th deadline. The chosen artist will play a significant role in enhancing the new community centre's aesthetic and fostering a connection to local wildlife and artistic heritage.
