charitydrive culminates: Olam Agri extends aid to underprivileged kids

In a heartwarming display of support, the workers of Olam Agri, a leading agri-commodity supply chain manager, have stepped up to help two local orphanages. Over the course of a month, staff members contributed new and gently-used items as part of a sustainability drive that highlights the importance of community service and encourages eco-friendly habits.

Two charities, 'Chosen Children Orphanage' in Darkuman, Accra, and 'Save Them Young Mission' in Tema's Golf City, were the fortunate recipients of these generous donations. The contents of the consignments ranged from clothing and footwear to toys, school supplies, and bags, hoofing it to a grand total of over 500 items to bring joy to over 500 orphaned children.

In addition to these personal donations, the company provided goods from their inventory, further boosting the support for these underprivileged children.

Olam Agri’s sustainability drive has a dual focus: fostering employee involvement in environmental issues, particularly waste reduction and recycling, and contributing to local communities. As Madam Felicia, a guardian at Chosen Children Orphanage, explained, “These kids are our responsibility, and we rely heavily on kind-hearted donations like these to give them a bit of normalcy during these challenging times.”

Remarking on the employee response, Mr. Stephen Adeakye, the national head of Human Resources at Olam Agri, expressed his appreciation for their commitment. "We're delighted to see such contributions from our employees. This initiative is a testament to their dedication to both sustainability and the well-being of our communities. Our goal is to make a lasting impact on those who need it most.", Adeakye added.

Olam Agri’s efforts go beyond these donations, with initiatives like their Farmer Income and Living Income Gap Tool, a collaboration with ofi and TRACT to enhance supply chain resilience and support rural communities. Similarly, Healthy Baker program in Ghana aims to improve workers' well-being and promote better health standards. Although these initiatives don't directly support orphanages, they underscore the company's broader focus on community well-being and responsible business practices.

While there's no public record of an Olam Agri-led, orphanage-focused donation drive, the company's dedication to community support and sustainability initiatives is evident. If you're interested in learning more about a specific local orphanage support drive, it may be a smaller-scale effort not covered in recent press releases or official communications.

  1. The sustainability drive initiated by Olam Agri extends beyond their home-and-garden inventory donations, as employees also contributed a variety of items to two local orphanages.
  2. In alignment with their commitment to sustainability and community well-being, Olam Agri encourages its employees to report on eco-friendly habits and lifestyle choices, not just during work-related activities, but also in their personal lives.
