City of Offenbach deliberates on a fresh set of ensembles for its bells
The city of Offenbach is set to introduce a fresh sound to its city center, as six new titles will be heard regularly starting from September 20. This exciting development is part of the "Glock 'n Bach - Your New Sound for Offenbach" project, which is in its second round and forms part of the celebrations for the 255th anniversary of the Apotheke zum Löwen.
The collaboration for this unique project includes "Like Offenbach", "Das ist Offenbach", and the municipal cultural management. A shortlist of 20 titles was compiled from over 600 music wishes, with the final six being chosen based on their feasibility on the carillon, considering its limited tone number and strong echo.
Dr. Ralph Philipp Ziegler, one of the project's organisers, suggested that even titles like those of AC/DC could surprisingly work well on the carillon. However, rhythmic rap pieces were excluded due to the limitations of the instrument.
Peter Krausch is responsible for creating the arrangements for the selected titles. He commented that the musical submissions showed great diversity, reflecting the city's rich cultural landscape.
Interested parties can vote for their favourite titles online at www.glocknbach.de or at the Apotheke zum Löwen. Voting will take place from August 8 to 23. The six titles with the most votes will be added to the carillon repertoire on September 20.
Once added, these six titles will become a permanent addition to the carillon repertoire in the Offenbach city center, enhancing the city's musical landscape and providing a unique auditory experience for its residents and visitors alike.
In continuation with the "Glock 'n Bach - Your New Sound for Offenbach" project, one can explore other avenues of the city's cultural landscape through home-and-garden interpretations. The city's rich cultural and musical heritage has inspired diverse submissions in this year's shortlist, hinting at an other lifestyle element in the heart of Offenbach.
