City of York hosting creative festival for public this weekend at no cost

This weekend, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) is hosting a free festival in Homestead Park, York. The event, named 'Homestead Park Festival: Here is Hope', is a celebration of music, nature, creativity, and community, and is open to all.

The festival is a testament to the legacy of Joseph Rowntree, who founded the JRF in 1904 and gave Homestead Park to the community during a time of financial struggle. The park was later passed on to the city by Benjamin Seebohm Rowntree, Joseph's son.

The Homestead Park Festival is a collaborative effort between the JRF and Wild Rumpus, with Liz Pickering, the deputy CEO at Wild Rumpus, playing a key role. The festival aims to make events accessible to the local community, especially during these challenging times, by being free of charge.

Attendees can look forward to interactive storytelling from street performers and puppeteers, a performance from the theatre show 'TRUTH!', and various workshops and activities for families. The festival runs from 10am on Saturday 5 July to 8pm, and from 10am to 6pm on Sunday.

Sophie Howard, the JRF community engagement lead for Homestead Park, expressed her excitement about bringing the festival to the people of York. She said, "This festival is about connecting people through play and creativity in the great outdoors, and we can't wait to see the community come together in Homestead Park."

The Homestead Park Festival is more than just a celebration of York's communities; it is a look towards a better future. Attendees are expected to leave feeling inspired and hopeful, ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead.

The JRF has offices in York, London, and Glasgow, and their work extends beyond this weekend's festival. They are committed to building a future that works for everyone, focusing on issues such as poverty, housing, and social justice.

So, if you're in York this weekend, be sure to head down to Homestead Park and join in the festivities. The Homestead Park Festival: Here is Hope is an event not to be missed!

At Homestead Park Festival, attendees will experience a lifestyle that embraces outdoor-living, spurred by the JRF's commitment to community engagement. This event, aiming to unite people through creative play in the park's picturesque surroundings, also showcases a home-and-garden feel with interactive storytelling and family activities.
