City votes to adopt revised playlist for the town bell

In the heart of Offenbach, a unique musical celebration is about to take place. After a successful first round, the Glock 'n Bach project is back for its second edition, marking the 255th anniversary of the Apotheke zum Löwen. This collaborative effort between Like Offenbach, Das ist Offenbach, and the city's cultural management, aims to bring a fresh sound to Offenbach's city centre.

Over 600 music wishes were submitted, from which a shortlist of 20 titles has been compiled. The jury's decision was based on how well a title could be implemented on the carillon, considering its limited number of tones and strong echo.

The selected songs reflect a mix of classical, contemporary, and local significance. Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", The Eagles' "Hotel California", The Beatles' "Yesterday", Pharrell Williams' "Happiness", Ludwig van Beethoven's "Für Elise", and a local composition titled "Mainhattan Skyline" are the six songs that will be added to the carillon's repertoire on September 20.

In addition to these, the selection includes international hits such as "Viva la Vida" and "Bella Ciao", as well as rock titles like AC/DC's "Hells Bells", surprising many with their potential suitability for the carillon, according to Dr. Ralph Philipp Ziegler.

Interested parties can vote online at www.glocknbach.de or at the Apotheke zum Löwen. Voting will take place from August 8 to 23. The six added titles will be regularly heard in Offenbach's city centre in the future, adding a new layer of melody to the city's rhythm. So, get ready to enjoy the harmonious blend of music and history as Offenbach rings in its anniversary with the Glock 'n Bach project.

In the spirit of the festivities, a change of pace is anticipated in other parts of Offenbach. One might envision a tranquil home-and-garden setting, punctuated by melodies from a carillon, as a refreshing alternative to the lively carillon music in the city centre. For those interested, The Glock 'n Bach project has also launched a homespace Makeover contest, where participants can submit their ideas for a unique home-and-garden lifestyle transformation.
