The city of Ingolstadt is gearing up for a festive season with the annual Ingolstadt Crib Trail. This cultural and artistic event showcases an array of nativity scenes, or cribs, that reflect various styles, craftsmanship, and regional traditions.

The central exhibition of this year's trail is held in the historic Hospital Church (Spitalkirche), located on the town square. The church, a late Gothic hall church, is usually closed except for services but is open during the Crib Trail's opening hours.

Highlights of the exhibition include a series of intricate monastic works, including pieces from the Gnadenthal monastery collection. One of the main attractions is the restored Osterrieder crib from the city museum, shining in renewed glory for the first time. In addition to traditional depictions of Christ's birth in the stable, this year's exhibition at the Hospital Church also features the Flight into Egypt.

Eight crib makers and private lenders from Ingolstadt and the region have contributed exhibits for the central exhibition at the Hospital Church. These exhibits range from alpine, oriental, to a variety of international cribs made from different materials.

The Crib Trail's opening hours are Thursday and Friday, 1:30 PM to 5 PM, Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday, 1 PM to 5 PM. The exhibition in the Hospital Church is open until January 6, with specific opening hours as previously mentioned. It's important to note that the exhibition is closed on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day.

On special days such as December 25 and 26, as well as on Epiphany, the Sunday opening hours apply for the Crib Trail. The Crib Trail is open for visitors on these days as well.

Programme leaflets for the Crib Trail are available at all participating locations and can also be accessed digitally at www.ingolstadt.de/krippenweg. The event is free to visit, as previously mentioned, making it an accessible and enjoyable experience for all.

In addition to the central exhibition, the Crib Trail features special cribs at various locations around the city. Visitors are encouraged to explore and immerse themselves in this cherished Christmas tradition, appreciating craftsmanship and cultural heritage through these captivating nativity displays in a historic setting.

Individuals interested in the 'fashion-and-beauty' aspect of the Ingolstadt Crib Trail could admire the intricate nativity scenes with 'lifestyle' themes, as private lenders from the region contribute a variety of international cribs. For those enthusiastic about 'home-and-garden' decor, the tour offers the opportunity to immerse oneself in this cherished Christmas tradition, appreciating craftsmanship and cultural heritage through captivating nativity displays in a historic setting.
