Construction of affordable housing using modular methods advances at Hellersdorfer Theaterplatz

In the heart of Berlin-Hellersdorf, a new housing project is taking shape at Theaterplatz. This ambitious venture is a collaboration between HOWOGE and Laborgh, a collective involved in the residential project.

The project, set to be completed soon, will comprise 167 rental apartments, all of which will be barrier-free, catering to a diverse range of residents. The apartments will range from one to five rooms, providing options for singles, families, and everyone in between.

The location of the project is expected to be a significant draw, with the Alice-Salomon University of Applied Sciences nearby, making it an attractive choice for students. Additionally, the N5 bus runs directly to the doorstep, connecting Schoeneberg, Mitte, and Friedrichshain, while good transport connections are also available via the nearby U5 subway line, allowing residents to quickly reach other Berlin districts.

For HOWOGE, this project forms part of its strategy to create affordable housing through socially compatible densification. The apartment building, seven stories and U-shaped, will utilise modular construction for efficiency and high construction quality.

The housing project is situated on the border of Brandenburg, offering a quiet, green environment. The energy supply follows the 'power-only house' principle, relying on a modern air-water heat pump and photovoltaic system. This approach is designed to ensure low energy consumption, potentially reducing utility costs for tenants.

To further enhance the living experience, an additional 670 square meters of play and movement areas will be created outdoors. Schools, kindergartens, and shopping facilities are within walking distance, ensuring convenience for residents.

The quarter center 'Helle Mitte' is a few minutes away by bike or one subway station, offering a city meeting point for education, gastronomy, and leisure activities. This project aims to create another piece of housing that meets modern requirements for energy efficiency, sustainability, and urban coexistence.

Construction on the project began in November 2024, and the community of Berlin-Hellersdorf eagerly awaits the completion of this innovative and sustainable housing solution.
