In the heart of Dresden's Inner Neustadt, a new inter-cultural community centre, 'Haus der Brücke', is set to open its doors on September 21st at Rähnitzgasse 8. This significant development is made possible by a generous donation from the Arnhold family, a name deeply rooted in the city's cultural and social history.

The Arnhold family, with a history dating back to the 19th century, has been a constant presence in Dresden, despite facing persecution and expulsion during the National Socialist period. Remarkably, they have remained connected to the city, their contributions to its cultural landscape evident even today.

One of their most notable donations was made in 1926, when Georg Arnhold gifted the Georg-Arnhold-Bad. However, the specific role of the Arnhold family in the construction of the 'Haus der Brücke' is not detailed. What we do know is that the centre, with its rooms for workshops, events, a café, a community kitchen, and a quiet room, aims to be a space for exchange, community, and inter-cultural coexistence.

The opening of the centre marks the start of the 35th edition of the Inter-cultural Days in Dresden. Over 200 events will take place throughout the city until October 12th under the motto 'Growing Together'. The centre invites initiatives without a fixed seat in the house to participate, and up to eleven associations can use fixed workspaces or offices at the centre.

The rooms in the new community centre are named after individual family members, a testament to the Arnhold family's enduring impact on Dresden. The municipal gallery, which was previously located at Rähnitzgasse, has moved to the former Robotron canteen on the other side of the Elbe.

For more information about the events, visit www.dresden.de/interkulturelletage. The Arnhold family's role in shaping the cultural and social life of Dresden continues, with the 'Haus der Brücke' set to become a vibrant hub for inter-cultural exchange and community engagement.
