Creative Orange-Inspired Projects and Fun Activities {Exploring Colours with Brown Bear Books}

In the latest instalment of the "Learning Colours" series, inspired by the beloved book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?", children were introduced to the vibrant hue of orange.

The crafting session began with the creation of a paint swatch fish using a fish-shaped sponge and cookie cutter. Three circles were carefully stuck on to complete the craft, although suggestions were made that the fish could benefit from a few more.

F, the little artist, was very gentle with the clownfish paper aquarium, handling it with care and showing a particular fondness for the orange-themed container. Inside this container, an array of items awaited, including a wind-up fish, an orange trumpet, and an orange spring.

For a tasty treat, Sweet Goldfish Grahams crackers were set into blue Jello, providing a fun and delicious way to incorporate the colour orange into the day's activities.

The focus of the week was on the gold fish, but for the purposes of the colour learning series, it is assumed that the text refers to "orange fish" or "orange goldfish." A picture of a fish was coloured-in using an orange crayon, an orange pencil, and two orange marker pens.

Orange paper tearing and collage was one of the creative activities introduced. Children tore orange-colored paper to create a vibrant orange fruit collage, enhancing their fine motor skills and color recognition through hands-on art.

An orange colour day was also organised, where all learning and play activities focused on the colour orange, immersing the children in the hue through various objects, art, and stories.

An orange peeling activity engaged the children's senses of touch, smell, and taste, connecting the colour to real-world objects and experiences.

Teaching children to mix red and yellow paints to create orange was another method used, helping them understand how colours combine and fostering creativity.

A wooden fish was painted orange and purchased for $1, becoming a favourite addition to the orange-themed collection. The orange container was the favourite colour-themed container among the items prepared so far.

These activities collectively promote sensory exploration, creative expression, and foundational colour learning in an engaging, play-based manner, aligning well with the style often used in the Brown Bear, Brown Bear inspired lessons focused on colours.

  1. For a lifelong learning approach, the home-and-garden setting was incorporated with the orange-themed container and wind-up fish, making education-and-self-development an enjoyable experience as children learned about colors.
  2. The online-education platform could further expand the "Learning Colours" series by offering educational resources that guide children in mixing primary colors to create orange, supporting their understanding of color combination.
  3. By fostering creativity through various art projects like the orange paper tearing and collage, the children's lifestyle was enriched while developing essential skills such as fine motor skills and color recognition.
