In the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, the city of Neuss recently honoured its local heroes at the Neuss Heimat Prize ceremony. The event, supported by the state government and operating under the motto "Home. Future. North Rhine-Westphalia", aims to recognise individuals, groups, or organisations that significantly contribute to community development, culture, or social cohesion.

This year, the city council of Neuss decided to increase the prize money by 50% to €7,500. The awards were presented by Mayor Reiner Breuer.

Dr. Albert Wunsch was the recipient of the first prize, receiving €3,750 for his dedication to preserving remnants of the former Schraubenfabrik Bauer & Schaurte, a significant part of Neuss's history.

Jan Di Benedetto and Tanja Ragunathan, representing the Young Citizens' Foundation, were awarded a second prize for their active engagement, particularly in the social sector.

Martin Kluth, who served as the Schuetzen president for 45 years and has been instrumental in strengthening the village community through personal commitment and numerous events, also received a second prize for preserving traditions in the city of Neuss.

Melanie Bröxkes, despite not meeting the criteria set by the state of NRW for the Heimat Prize, was honoured with a special award. Melanie has shown exceptional dedication to helping those in need, particularly in the flood-stricken Ahrtal. She regularly collects donations and relief supplies to aid the affected areas, and has accompanied more than 120 tons of supplies to crisis areas.

The department of volunteer work and home affairs had 15 proposals by the end of the application deadline (August 16, 21). The ceremony was held in a small circle with the 3G rule and a recommendation for self-testing due to the current pandemic situation.

The Neuss Heimat Prize is a testament to the city's commitment to recognising and celebrating its local heroes. For precise criteria, nomination process, award categories, and details specific to the Neuss Heimat Prizes, it is recommended to consult official Neuss city government or community organisations' websites or contact their local administration directly.

The Neuss Heimat Prize, with its focus on "Home", not only acknowledges individuals who significantly contribute to community development but also those who uphold traditions, as shown by Martin Kluth's recognition for preserving local traditions. The prize, expanded to include a home-and-garden segment this year, was exemplified by Melanie Bröxkes's special award for her efforts in helping flood-stricken areas, demonstrating her dedication to improving lives within her community.
