Dortmund's Nordstadt district played host to Port Walk 2024, showcasing key moments and opinions from the event

The North City of Dortmund, Germany, is gearing up for a special celebration on August 31, 2024, as the 125th anniversary of Dortmund Harbor is marked with the 12th annual Harbor Stroll (Dortmunder Hafenrundgang).

This free event, which typically features guided tours, exhibitions, maritime music, food stalls, and family-friendly activities along the harbor area, promises to be a memorable occasion. With over 70 events happening at 40 locations around the quarter, there's plenty to explore.

District Mayor Hannah Rosenbaum highlights the event's significance, stating that the Harbor Stroll reflects the strengths, diversity, and cultural richness of the quarter. The event features live music, graffiti performances, interactive activities, and city tours at various locations.

One such location is the cultural venue Depot in Immermannstraße, which is hosting an Open House. Here, visitors can wander from studio to studio between 3 pm and 7 pm, exchanging ideas with artists and cultural creators on site. The Depot will also host an event until 8 pm, featuring free admission, drinks, and a DJ for relaxation.

For those seeking a systematic overview of the cultural offerings, guided tours are available at 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm. The TU Dortmund's Climate Walk is also taking place in the Harbor Quarter.

The Harbor Quarter itself is a historical gem, with the restoration of the historic Harbor Crane still in progress. For those interested in the area's history, this could be an intriguing addition to the day's events.

The new "Heimathafen" of Grünbau, while not explicitly mentioned as a location for these events, is focusing on the topic of colonialism. An exhibition on this topic was on display in the old horse stable. A decolonial monument, not yet ready for the Harbor Stroll, will be created at the "Heimathafen" of Grünbau.

To help plan and share a personal route through the offerings, the free app hafenspaziergang.echt-nordstadt.de is available. Additionally, a free shuttle bus serves 11 stops in the quarter and runs every 15 minutes, making it easy to navigate the various locations.

For precise highlights and scheduled events for August 31, 2024, it's recommended to check the official Dortmund harbor or city event websites, local news outlets, or contact the organizing committee directly closer to the date, as official programs are often released weeks prior to the event.
