Building works for Dresden Filmnights along the Elbe riverbank are underway - Dresden's Film Nights Along the Elbe Are Currently Ongoing
Summer's cultural landscape in Dresden is set to include the much-anticipated Elbe River Film Nights, previously scheduled near the Carolabridge. Following initial concerns after the partial collapse of one of its arches in 2024, preparations are underway for this year's event at a new location, with the cinema and concert programs due to be revealed next week.
One confirmed highlight is the 30th Dresden Short Film Night, scheduled for July 10th. Audiences can anticipate a screening of legendary short films from the last three decades, including FLIEGEN (2009) directed by Piotr J. Lewandowski with Sandra Hüller. Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Elbe River, this open-air event promises an unforgettable atmosphere and will begin ticket sales on May 27th.
Additionally, a special concert event will replace the usual Legends and Kid's Night series. Titled "Blockbuster Battle: Hans Zimmer vs. John Williams," this series will take place at the Kulturpalast Dresden on June 27th and 28th. The Dresden Philharmonic, under the guidance of conductor Benjamin Pope and presenter Tom Wlaschiha, will perform classic film music from popular franchises such as Harry Potter, Gladiator, and Game of Thrones. Audiences will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite "goosebumps moments," and can enjoy a lounge area with refreshments after the concert. This event is suitable for children aged 5 and above.
As of May 2025, these are the confirmed highlights for Dresden's summer open-air cinema and concert season. Other cultural events, such as board game evenings and scavenger hunts, are also available during the summer months, often organized by local institutions like TU Dresden. The remaining schedule for the Elbe River Film Nights will be released next week.
