Berlin's culinary scene presents a diverse gastronomic landscape, with a vibrant mix of international flavors. Modern Potsdamer Platz
Potsdamer Platz, a modern heart of the city, offers a unique fusion of history and contemporary development. Having first visited Berlin in 1993, just a few years following the fall of the Berlin Wall, the area has transformed significantly. At the time, it was a hive of construction activity, promises of a new future and an emerging urban center. A return to the area nearly three decades later confirms the success of the developers and business community in creating a dynamic hub, home to the glass-walled Sony Centre, the elegant Fragrances bar within the Ritz Carlton Hotel, and a host of luxury shops.
Potsdamer Platz attracts a wide audience, from local entrepreneurs to tourists seeking cool leisure facilities, all drawn to the area's energetic atmosphere.
Exceptional Lunch
Following a busy morning exploring Potsdamer Platz, we took a break for lunch at the Midtown Grill. The restaurant maintained its reputation for offering high-quality steaks, traditional American burgers, and an impressive selection of wines. Stephan, the hospitable host, and Sabine, our courteous server, ensured a pleasant dining experience.
We began with generous, American-sized portions of a classic Caesar salad featuring chargrilled salmon and a tomato and mozzarella salad.
Superior Steaks
Their steaks come in various cuts, including Rib Eye, T-Bones, Tenderloins, and even impressive 1200-gram Porterhouse steaks. Despite the tempting array of choices, we opted for the elegant and flavorful Filet Mignon. Each cut is expertly prepared to order and cooked on sizzling hot charcoal in the X-Oven.
In addition to the coveted steaks, the menu offers German specialties such as Mini Kartoffel, as well as seafood options including oysters, soft-shell crab, or lobster, along with a range of salads.
I was particularly fond of the wine list, with the Schneider 'Black Print' red wine proving to be a standout choice. Indulgent desserts, such as Creme Brullee and New York Cheesecake, complete the dining experience.
The hotel underwent a recent renovation, now boasting stylish, city-center rooms with contemporary design.
