## Redesign of Southeastern Entrance of Benckiser Park Focuses on Climate-Resilient Planting

In an effort to create a more sustainable and inviting park environment, the Southeastern entrance of Benckiser Park in Pforzheim is undergoing a significant redesign. The project, led by Florian Schmauder, the trainer and head of the care department at Technical Services, aims to transform the entrance area into a climate-resilient landscape that enhances biodiversity and promotes sustainability.

The redesign process began with the removal of high hedges, bushes, and trees to improve visibility and increase a sense of security. This was followed by the creation of new perennial beds, which have been filled with earth and will be planted with a variety of climate-resilient perennials in the spring. Among the plants to be included are sun-loving perennials such as Pride of the Meadows and Pride of the Garden, as well as shade-loving perennials like Bergenias and Lily of the Valley.

The choice of perennials is not accidental, as the city of Pforzheim has been focusing on climate-resilient planting for new perennial beds for many years. In fact, the outdoor area of the Reuchlin House was also redesigned with a focus on climate-resilient planting.

The redesign of the entrance area also considers the replacement of trees that may be less resilient to changing environmental conditions. The trees removed during the redesign will be replaced with climate trees in the spring, ensuring the continued green and vibrant appearance of the park.

In addition to the plantings, the redesign of the entrance area has been planned with climate protection and insect friendliness in mind. The decorative beds have been designed to be efficient and offer a good example of climate-resilient planting. The new layout of the entrance area now presents an open and friendly appearance, providing a good overview of the entire green area of the park.

Schmauder explains that the planting will be efficient, with a focus on climate-resilient planting techniques such as using native species and designing for efficient water use. The aim is to create a park entrance that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also sustainable and resilient in the face of changing climate conditions.

The redesign of the Southeastern entrance of Benckiser Park is part of a broader commitment by the city of Pforzheim to promote climate-resilient planting for every new perennial bed. This approach ensures that the park will continue to thrive and serve as a welcoming and sustainable green space for visitors to enjoy for years to come.

In line with the city's focus on climate-resilient planting, the newly designed Southeastern entrance of Benckiser Park will incorporate not only climate-resilient perennials such as Pride of the Meadows, Pride of the Garden, Bergenias, and Lily of the Valley in its home-and-garden landscaping, but also gardens that promote sustainability and biodiversity. Future plans also include the planting of climate trees to replace less resilient ones, further emphasizing the park's lifestyle transformation towards a more sustainable future.
