The UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön is set to honour the hard work and dedication of its rangers on August 1st, World Ranger Day. This significant event recognises the crucial role these individuals play in preserving the natural and cultural heritage within the reserve.

Rangers in the Rhön Biosphere Reserve are instrumental in conservation, education, and sustainable management of the biosphere. They foster public awareness and appreciation of these efforts through a variety of community engagement activities.

The celebrations for World Ranger Day in the Rhön Biosphere Reserve are filled with exciting events designed to connect the public with the reserve's natural environment. These activities include guided nature walks, educational workshops, exhibitions about local biodiversity and conservation practices, and interactive activities for families and children.

This year's event will take place at the Wanderparkplatz Schwarzes Moor, from 12 to 16 pm, and no registration is required for the guided tours. At 2 pm, thematic guided tours will be available, offering visitors a chance to discover various aspects of the biosphere reserve.

Visitors can also learn about the diverse tasks of rangers in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön at the information stand. A special offer for young nature enthusiasts is also available: children and families can build nesting aids and learn playfully about the habitat of native bird species with the Junior Rangers.

World Ranger Day also highlights the often dangerous working conditions faced by rangers worldwide, with over 100 losing their lives each year due to violence, poaching, or lack of equipment, according to the WWF.

Currently, 13 rangers are in action in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön, with seven in Hesse and six in Bavaria. They are responsible for tasks such as nature conservation, education for sustainable development, landscape management, monitoring, visitor guidance in the protected areas, and digital ranger duties on the internet.

Rangers will provide insights into topics such as insect diversity and the protection of core zones during the event. So, if you're interested in learning more about the work of these dedicated individuals, be sure to mark your calendars for World Ranger Day in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön.
