Exhibition of street scholars in Dusseldorf - my images encapsulate spirit

In the heart of Bilk, the Foyer of the Ev. Luther Church is currently hosting an extraordinary exhibition, "Bilder sind meine Seele" (Images are my soul), which runs until June 25th. The exhibition features a diverse collection of artworks created by participants of the Street Academy, a project co-founded by Professor Katharina Mayer.

The Street Academy, known as "Akademisten" by Katharina Mayer, is a unique initiative aimed at empowering marginalized individuals living on the streets. However, the background and significance of the project, Akademisten, are not extensively detailed in available search results. For a more comprehensive understanding, further specific information would need to be sourced from dedicated websites, publications, or official pages associated with the Street Academy or Akademisten project.

The artworks on display at the exhibition showcase a variety of techniques, formats, and themes, including fairy tale and myth-inspired images, geometric shapes, graffiti-inspired lettering, ornamental methods, informal images, caricatures, figurative art, and fantasy. The pieces are deeply personal, reflecting the individual experiences and emotions of the artists.

Fiftyfifty and Professor Katharina Mayer have been active in providing opportunities for the homeless, with projects such as 'Housing First meets Gastro,' which aims to reintegrate the homeless and help them enter the job market. The Street Academy meets twice a week, thanks to the cooperation with the Mergemeier bookbinding shop, where participants engage in artistic activities such as drawing, painting, photography, or text.

The exhibition opening was graced by musical accompaniment from Christoph Lahme and Oliver Drechsel. Numerous guests attended the event, including Pastor Ralf Breitkreutz, who emphasized that the exhibition aligns perfectly with the Luther Church community's goal of making art accessible, stimulating thoughts, inspiring imagination, and addressing social issues.

Josef Hinkel, Heinrich Fucks, and Ralf Breitkreutz spoke at the opening, highlighting the importance of community and the commitment of fiftyfifty and Professor Katharina Mayer in reintegrating the homeless. Katharina Mayer expressed her delight that the Evangelical Luther Church's Kunstforum hosted the exhibition, as the Street Academy aims to open opportunities and provide chances for its participants.

Despite processing heavy life crises, traumas, losses, and social exclusion, all the artworks radiate a positive vibe. This is the Street Academy's third exhibition, with two previous exhibitions having seen successful sales from the participants. The public is invited to visit the exhibition, free of charge, Monday to Thursday from 11 am to 5 pm.
