Expansion of Water Supply Reaches Upland Neighborhoods in Cebu City, Courtesy of MCWD
Fresh Scoop: Over a thousand homes in Sitios Lower Panabang, Upper Panabang, and Grotto, situated in Barangay Apas, Cebu City, are gearing up for clean water thanks to a pipe-laying project launched by the City Government and the Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD).
This project, which stretches up to two kilometers, is anticipated to be wrapped up by June or July, according to Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia. He expressed his gratitude to residents like Arlene Bejarasco, who shared her struggle with water scarcity since moving to Apas. The development falls under the MCWD's Tubig Pa More initiative, aiming to alleviate water woes across Cebu City.
Mayor Garcia stressed the importance of cooperation between agencies and communities. "No fighting government agencies," he said, "because together we can accomplish many programs and have ample water supply."
MCWD General Manager Edgar Donoso pledged to coordinate with the project contractor and barangay officials to expedite the work, with an aim to complete it by July. He also promised to assist residents in applying for water services under Tubig Pa More.
In a separate event, the upland Barangay Guba rejoiced as an MCWD distribution line reached the area for the first time. Guba Barangay Captain Orlan Herrera praised the initiative, acknowledging water scarcity long plaguing his barangay and others in the uplands. Currently, the water line only serves five of the barangay's 11 sitios, with Herrera encouraging MCWD to expand services to the entire barangay.
MCWD vowed to ensure potable water and ramp up coverage as they begin accepting applications for household connections.
The Tubig Pa More initiative, part of MCWD's broader efforts to expand clean water access, signals hope for those facing water challenges in various barangays across Cebu City. Although specific details about the impact on Barangays Guba, Malubog, Budlaan, and Agsungot aren't directly specified, ongoing efforts toward improving water infrastructure hint at possible improvements in these areas as well.
