Exploring the Art of Narrative through VHS: A Living Canvas for Storytellers
The Adult Education Center (VHS) Bamberg City is set to open the autumn-winter semester 2025/26 with a captivating matinee on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 11 am. The event, themed "Much to Tell", will take place in the Great Hall of the Old E-Werk, offering both on-site attendance and online participation.
John von Duffel, the renowned writer, dramaturg, and new intendant of the ETA Hoffmann Theater, will grace the occasion as the guest of honor. He will read selected texts and engage in a discussion with Dr. Anna Scherbaum, the director of VHS, exploring how we find language for experiences that shape us.
The matinee will delve into the significance of literature and theater as a mirror of life, with John von Duffel placing reflection on one's own history at the center of the semester opening. The compositions for the event are inspired by medieval hours books and John von Duffel's work "The Little and the Essential".
Jochen Neurath, the Bamberg composer and winner of the 2025 Culture Promotion Prize, will musically accompany the matinee with excerpts from his piano cycle "Hours Book - 12 Meditations". The link for the online broadcast will be published on www.vhs-bamberg.de with the course number 0500.
Dr. Scherbaum will also give an outlook on the new semester program, presenting highlights and news for the coming months. The new program offers many opportunities for personal development, discovering new perspectives, and engaging in conversation with others.
The Adult Education Center will offer around 850 courses, guided tours, lectures, and events in the new semester. The theme of "Much to Tell" also applies to the new semester program, promising a rich and diverse learning experience for all.
Following the official part, a small reception with drinks and snacks will be held. The matinee is public and registration is not required. Whether you choose to attend on site at Tränkergasse 4 or from the comfort of your own home, this promises to be an event not to be missed.
