Fall Celebration Happening at Outdoor Historical Site in Hagen
Autumn Festival at Hagen Open-Air Museum
The Hagen Open-Air Museum of the Westphalian-Lippe Regional Association (LWL) is hosting its annual autumn festival over the first weekend of October (30.9. / 1.10.). The three-day celebration offers a variety of attractions, including a farmers' and artisans' market, participatory activities, and pumpkin carving.
Visitors can find local produce such as honey, liqueurs, sausage specialties, and various cheeses, jams, nuts, potatoes, vegetables, and fresh fruit at the farmers' market in front of the Gelbgießerei. The arts and crafts market on the upper museum square showcases autumn home decor ideas, indigo dyeing, and soap art, as well as jewelry made from Glass, silver, or textiles. Other offerings include felted and wool products, ceramics, flower arrangements, and woven baskets. Local poultry breeders will have many well-known and lesser-known breeds on display for visitors to observe up close.
Demonstrations, workshops, and activities cater to all ages, with offerings such as basket weaving, jewelry making, and blacksmithing. Pony rides and pumpkin carving are available for children, and additional children's workshops are offered on Sunday.
Adults and children can participate in the "Potato Master" competition, aiming to crown the best potato enthusiast. The brewery will offer a peek behind the scenes, and this year, Habbel's company will present wines from Veneto for the first time at the autumn festival.
For musical entertainment, the Pilgerfathers band, based in the LWL residential community in Hemer, will perform at Hagen's most beautiful beer garden on the upper square in front of the brewery on Sunday afternoon (2–4 pm).
Food and drink stands and the Museumsterrassen restaurant will cater to visitors throughout the festival, offering grilled and autumn specialties such as pumpkin cream soup, onion cake, and new wine.
A free shuttle bus from the museum parking lot to the alternative parking lot at the Cartbahn Beule will run on Sunday afternoon (between 1 and 6 pm).
Tickets for the autumn festival can be purchased for adults at €7.00, children up to 17 years at €2.00, reduced rate at €3.50, and families (two adults and up to four children) at €15.00. For more information, visitors can call 02331/7807-0 or visit www.lwl-freilichtmuseum-hagen.de.
