Let's Party Like It's Mallorca in Oberhausen

Festival along Rhine-Herne Canal: Ballermann Edition

Oberhausen (dpa) - "Call the doc, I've got island fever," goes a popular ballroom tune by Julian Sommer and Frenzy. Sure as hell, a lot of doctors should've been on call in Oberhausen on Saturday.

That's where, in the heart of the Ruhr area, tens of thousands celebrated what they claim as the biggest Mallorca bash in Germany – the "Island Fever" – according to the event organizers.

"You can feel the Mallorca vibe here to a thousand percent, just transplanted to Germany. That's what makes this shindig so special," crooner and host Frenzy ("Lights on") told the German Press Agency. On the outdoor grounds of the Rudolf-Weber-Arena, near the Rhine-Herne Canal and the vast Westfield Centro shopping center, dozens of artists performed on two stages for over ten hours, who are usually at home in "Bierkönig" and "Megapark in El Arenal."

This lively crew included Mickie Krause ("Eine Woche wach"), Mia Julia ("Der Zug hat keine Bremse"), Lorenz Büffel ("Johnny Däpp"), Isi Glück ("Delfin"), Julian Sommer ("Dicht im Flieger") or Marc Eggers ("Oberteil").

The scorching heat, mixed with beer and sangria, proved challenging for some of the 35,000 Ballermann enthusiasts – the paramedics had their hands full, despite providing free water.
