Festival at the museum on 3rd August: Exploring crafts and immersing in history

The Bergisches Museum for Mining, Crafts, and Industry is set to host its annual museum festival on August 3, 2025, from 11 am to 5 pm. This much-anticipated event offers a diverse programme, including historical crafts, exhibitions, guided tours, and regional delicacies.

Located at Burggraben 19, 51429 Bergisch Gladbach, the festival takes place on the grounds opposite the Technical Town Hall, featuring historical half-timbered buildings.

Many volunteers are involved in the festival, ensuring its continuation for over 40 years. Willi Carl, chairman of the museum's support association, states that the festival is a great opportunity to convey history in a lively way.

The permanent exhibition in the old half-timbered house provides interesting insights into the daily life of people who lived in the region in the past. For those seeking a more hands-on experience, children can participate in creative activities such as making houses from clay and straw or creating their own herbal salt.

Lantern tours through the visitor's tunnel and archaeological tours are exciting features of the festival, offering insights into the history of the Bensberg mining district. Craftspeople will demonstrate traditional techniques such as baking in a historic oven, blacksmithing, spinning and weaving, and operating the 1907 locomotive and hammer mill.

Refreshments will include coffee and cake, cold drinks, freshly baked bread from the historic bakery, and hearty and vegetarian options from the grill.

The museum director, Sandra Brauer, returns to work after parental leave and emphasizes the importance of making regional craft traditions tangible and bringing people together in conversation.

The Bergisches Museum's festival not only offers a glimpse into the region's history through exhibitions and guided tours, but also showcases a lifestyle rich in fashion-and-beauty, food-and-drink, and home-and-garden, as refreshments include various options and children can participate in creative activities.

At the festival, located at Burggraben 19, 51429 Bergisch Gladbach, craftspeople demonstrate traditional techniques such as baking, blacksmithing, spinning, and weaving, providing a hands-on experience for visitors, reminiscent of a bygone era in a lively setting.
