First M. F. Husain Museum Opens in Doha Next Month
Next month, a unique museum dedicated to the renowned Indian artist M. F. Husain will open in Doha, Qatar. The Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum, operated by the Qatar Foundation, will be the first of its kind, providing a comprehensive overview of Husain's remarkable career and featuring a permanent collection of his works.
The museum, located in Doha's Education City, will showcase Husain's artistic journey, from his rise in the 1950s to his passing in 2011. His work, known for its vibrant and bold style, has been exhibited in prestigious international events like the Venice Biennale and the Bienal de São Paulo.
The museum's design is based on a sketch created by Husain himself in 2008. Among the exhibits will be a series of paintings about Arab civilization, commissioned by Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. In March 2023, one of Husain's paintings, 'Untitled (Gram Yatra)' from 1954, sold for $13.8 million at Christie's New York.
The Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum promises to be a significant cultural addition to Qatar. It will offer visitors a deep understanding and appreciation of Husain's influential role in Indian and international art.
