Florence Celebrates Heritage with Grand 'Fiorente' Parade Despite Rain
On a damp and chilly Sunday, October 5, 2025, Florence celebrated its cultural heritage with the tenth edition of 'Fiorente', a grand urban cavalry parade. Despite the adverse weather, the event dedicated to the eight-hundredth anniversary of Saint Francis of Assisi's 'Cantico delle Creature' drew a large crowd and notable dignitaries.
The parade, organized by the Arciconfraternity of Parte Guelfa in collaboration with the Municipality of Florence, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Order of the Friars Minor, showcased a spectacle of horses, amazons, knights, and carriages. The Mounted Band of the State Police, the guest of honor, accompanied the procession with lively musical performances.
The event was graced by the presence of the Questore of Florence, Dr. Fausto Lamparelli, Michele Pierguidi, and Luciano Artusi. Despite the rain, the parade route was filled with participants and spectators alike, culminating in front of the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella. Here, the Mounted Band played 'Dolce sentire', and the Italian national anthem echoed through the historic streets. After the parade, participants gathered for a convivial celebration.
Fiorente, one of Italy's most evocative equestrian events, successfully united tradition, culture, and passion for horses in an urban setting. Despite the challenging weather, the event was a testament to Florence's commitment to preserving its rich history and heritage.
