Frankish inns rank among Bavaria's top commercial enterprises
Two Franconian Gastronomy Businesses Honoured with Quality Seals
Two Franconian gastronomy establishments, the Gasthaus zum Schmied in Flachslanden and the Bayerischer Hof in Spalt, have been recognised for their exceptional contributions to culinary quality and beer culture.
At a ceremony held at the traditional inn "Der Pschorr" on Munich's Viktualienmarkt on July 30, 2025, the Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism, in collaboration with the Hotel and Restaurant Association DEHOGA Bayern, awarded the Quality Seal "Excellent Culinary Delights" to 18 gastronomy businesses and 16 festival tent operators from Bavaria.
The Gasthaus zum Schmied, located in Middle Franconia, was honoured for its culinary excellence. Minister of Food Michaela Kaniber praised the establishment for creating a place of togetherness, regionality, and high-quality cuisine. The Bayerischer Hof, also in Middle Franconia, was recognised for its commitment to Bavarian beer specialties and received the Quality Seal "Excellent Beer Culture". The Bayerischer Hof is the only gastronomy business in this year's list to also receive this distinction.
Six other gastronomers were also awarded the additional certificate "Excellent Beer Culture" for their special commitment to Bavarian beer specialties. Meanwhile, two Franconian butcheries were recently ranked among the "top ten butcheries in Bavaria".
The Quality Seal "Excellent Culinary Delights" recognises "lived hospitality, culinary regional love, and highest craftsmanship". The awarded businesses were recognised for their traditional yet modern cuisine, well-maintained appearance, well-trained staff, and commitment to regional products.
In addition, 16 Bavarian festival tent operators received the recognition "Excellent Festival Tent" for using regional products at major events like the Munich Oktoberfest. The Gasthaus zum Schmied and the Bayerischer Hof join the list of 18 gastronomy businesses that received the Quality Seal "Excellent Culinary Delights".
The Bayerischer Hof in Spalt was also awarded the Quality Seal "Excellent Beer Culture". This Franconian gastronomy business, which is the only one in this year's list to receive this distinction, is located in the district of Roth.
Another Franconian gastronomy business, the Gaststätte Drei Linden, was also awarded the Quality Seal "Excellent Culinary Delights".
These awards serve as a testament to the outstanding culinary scene in Franconia and the commitment of these establishments to preserving and promoting traditional Bavarian cuisine and beer culture.
The Gasthaus zum Schmied, renowned for its excellence in traditional yet modern cuisine and commitment to regional products, is not only a beacon of lived hospitality and culinary regional love, but also a showcase of the highest craftsmanship in the food-and-drink industry. In the same vein, the Bayerischer Hof, recognized for its exceptional commitment to Bavarian beer specialties and preservation of beer culture, embodies a lifestyle that seamlessly combines home-and-garden charm with gastronomic prowess.
