From Ex-Lax Factory to Brooklyn's Unique Living Space: David Finch's Transformation
David Finch has transformed a two-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn's Boerum Hill into a unique living space. The former Ex-Lax factory on Atlantic Avenue now boasts high ceilings and cement columns, which Finch admired. He collaborated with interior designer Danielle Fennoy to create a blend of vintage and modern elements.
Fennoy proposed a custom guitar pick-shaped table to anchor the dining area. Finch initially had doubts but visitors praised the unconventional design. The awkward bathroom was split into two, making the most of the space. Finch incorporated dark-brown wooden pieces, inherited from his grandmother, into the design. These pieces added a touch of warmth and history to the apartment.
The duo restored features dating back to the turn of the 20th century, preserving the apartment's heritage. Finch's desire for glass doorknobs and a vintage chandelier was fulfilled, adding a elegant touch. They semi-stripped the ceiling paint to expose the raw concrete beneath, enhancing the industrial feel of the space.
David Finch's apartment is now a harmonious blend of old and new, with unique features like the guitar pick-shaped table. Finch's initial doubts were dispelled by the positive reception from visitors. The restoration of vintage elements and exposure of raw concrete ceilings have created a space that is both functional and visually striking.
