In an effort to revitalise the choral scene and boost tourism, the Free State of Saxony has decided to financially support the "chor.com" festival, scheduled to take place in Leipzig in October 2026. The event, which will receive a funding of 240,000 euros, was initially approved by the Saxon cabinet before the pandemic, with Culture Minister Barbara Klepsch emphasising its importance after the coronavirus period.

Minister Klepsch, a strong advocate for the arts, considers choirs as a living expression of social cohesion. She believes that the event, which will bring together around 200 workshops on vocal music, 80 exhibitors from across Europe, evening concert programs, seminars, and networking opportunities for both professional and amateur choirs, will have a positive impact on the choral scene and tourism in Leipzig.

The decision to provide funding was influenced by the consequences of the Corona pandemic on choirs. The pandemic significantly impacted choirs, forcing many to cancel performances and struggle to stay afloat. The "chor.com" festival, therefore, is aimed at providing support after the Corona period.

The event is expected to further strengthen Leipzig's image as a music city. With an expected attendance of around 10,000 visitors, guests are expected to return based on past experience. Minister Klepsch views choirs as a valuable investment, and the "chor.com" festival as a significant step towards a sustainable impulse for the choral scene and tourism in Leipzig.

This support for the "chor.com" festival is a testament to the Saxon government's commitment to the arts and culture, and its belief in the power of music to bring people together and enrich our lives. The event is set to take place from October 1 to 4, 2026, and promises to be a memorable celebration of vocal music and social cohesion.
