The Verdi Band Lifts Spirits at Ronald McDonald House

The Verdi Band, a community musical group based in Norristown, Pennsylvania, brought a touch of joy and comfort to families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in West Philadelphia last Tuesday evening.

Founded in 1920 by an Italian immigrant, the Verdi Band has a rich history of service and enriching local culture. Their mission is to use music as a means of community connection and support, particularly for families facing medical hardships.

At the Ronald McDonald House, the band's performances create a comforting and joyful atmosphere, helping to alleviate stress and foster a sense of normalcy and hope for these families.

One family that experienced this firsthand was Michelle Farwell and her 14-year-old son, Alex, who travelled all the way from Syracuse, New York, for their child's medical treatment at local hospitals. The concert provided a welcome break for Michelle and Alex after a long day of appointments, offering a moment of respite due to the disruption of their normal routine.

Alex Farwell, who attended the concert, mentioned that it made him feel more comfortable and allowed him to socialize with others. His mother, Michelle, shared similar sentiments, expressing her gratitude for the emotional comfort the music provided during difficult circumstances.

The Verdi Band's longtime member, Monsignor John Marine, has been playing for more than 50 years. He and the rest of the band members believe in the power of music, with their founder once stating that "music is the Gospel of the human heart."
