Stadtilm's Renovated Swimming Pool Reopens with a Splash
After a long-awaited renovation, the public swimming pool in Stadtilm has reopened its doors to the public. The pool, which was built in 1954, underwent a 5.5 million euro renovation project to bring it up to modern standards.
The reopening event was a festive affair, with the traditional pool festival taking place. The highlight of the day was the Butt-Bombing Contest, where more than 30 participants took part, jumping from both the one-meter and three-meter boards.
The contest had three categories, with scoring rounds to determine the winners. Those who weighed less than 55 kilograms jumped from the one-meter board, while those who were heavier took to the three-meter board. In the "lightweights" category, Hugo Graube emerged victorious, while Philip Grimm claimed the top spot in the higher weight class.
The photo exhibition, curated by the IG local history group, also made a comeback on September 14. This time, it was displayed in the town hall as part of Heritage Day, showcasing the pool's 140-year history.
Musical entertainment was provided by the local band Helli Belly and the Billy Beans, while Neptune was on hand to baptize the visitors. The event also featured craft stands for children, a bouncy castle, and food and drinks from the caterer.

The city council's decision to invest in the pool rather than close it was met with relief and excitement from the local community. With the pool now reopened, residents can once again enjoy a refreshing dip on hot summer days like the one that coincided with the reopening.
