Ghostly appreciations for Ghana's Leti Arts as they etch historic milestones at the Summer Game Fest
In an exciting development, Leti Arts' hyper-casual mobile game SWEAVE has joined PlanetPlay's Green Games Activation. This move places SWEAVE at the forefront of environmental activism in the gaming industry.
"We're proving that play can be powerful, and that environmental impact can be entertaining, inclusive, and inspiring," said Rhea Loucas, CEO of PlanetPlay. This sentiment echoes the mission of SWEAVE, a game inspired by African patterns and weaving motifs, where players control a weaving ball to dodge obstacles based on African symbols.
SWEAVE offers culturally enriching gameplay through vibrant visuals and boss battles, with free access and optional in-app purchases. What sets SWEAVE apart, however, is its innovative approach to environmental activism. Since mid-2025, Leti Arts has partnered with PlanetPlay to leverage SWEAVE as a tool for climate action.
Every play session of SWEAVE contributes to planting trees, making it the first Ghanaian-made game to support real-world reforestation through gameplay. This initiative integrates gaming with tangible ecological impact, converting player engagement directly into support for tree planting and climate efforts.
Rhea Loucas referred to this collaboration as "more than just a showcase-it's a rallying cry." Eyram Tawia, CEO and Co-Founder of Leti Arts, added, "With SWEAVE, we're not just telling African stories, we're taking African leadership global."
The Green Games Showcase, a collaboration between games studios and climate-tech nonprofit PlanetPlay, will be streamed live on June 7 via The Game Awards YouTube channel. Leti Arts is among the international studios participating in this event, including Amazon Games, Team17, Skybound Games, Day Zero Games (co-founded by Trevor Noah), and others.
Starting June 7, every download and in-game interaction of SWEAVE will contribute to tree planting under Kenya's Hongera Project, which aims to plant 50,000 trees by June 30. The campaign also includes media activations, influencer takeovers, and social campaigns across Africa.
SWEAVE is now available for download on Google Play and the App Store. This groundbreaking game combines African cultural heritage with hyper-casual mobile gaming, and its impact lies in innovatively driving climate action by linking gameplay to environmental reforestation in Ghana. This marks a significant step in the emerging category of green games that use interactive entertainment to foster real-world sustainability.
