GVI's Volunteers Bridge Educational Inequalities Worldwide
GVI, a global volunteering organisation, is dedicated to improving access to quality education worldwide. Their volunteers undergo rigorous background checks and training to ensure the safety and well-being of children and vulnerable adults. The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the urgency of this mission, as educational inequalities have deepened, particularly for marginalised groups.
GVI's approach aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which aims to ensure inclusive and quality education for all by 2030. Their volunteer teaching programs, adhering to early childhood development best practices, prioritise the welfare of children. These programs are crucial in regions with fewer teaching resources, contributing to the reduction of the 103 million young people worldwide who lack basic literacy skills.
In addition to teaching, GVI also empowers women and promotes gender equality, further supporting SDG 4. Their construction projects improve school infrastructure, creating safe and conducive learning environments. Access to quality education is proven to enhance health outcomes, reducing maternal deaths, child marriage, and rates of HIV and AIDS. Moreover, it is a key factor in reducing poverty, increasing income, and boosting economic growth.
GVI currently supports achieving SDG 4 in countries such as Ghana, Rwanda, Nepal, Peru, and India. By providing schooling and training, their volunteers are helping to ensure that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has the opportunity to learn and thrive. This not only benefits individuals but also contributes to the broader goal of creating a more equitable and prosperous world.
