Mark your calendars for the third Sunday of September - that's when Mother's Day rolls around in Kazakhstan! Here's a lowdown, courtesy of Almaty.tv, citing Tengrinews.kz.

Established in 2012 at the initiative of the country's first president, Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev, Mother's Day recognizes women as the keepers of the family hearth. Nazarbayev himself mused, "Women are the guardians of the family hearth. Therefore, I propose to establish Mother's Day."

This year, Mother's Day falls on September 20, and thanks to the digital age, many events will take place online due to the ongoing pandemic. Nationwide, over a hundred events are being organized and streamed on official platforms.

The Ministry of Culture and Sports is pulling out all the stops with a flash mob called "For Mother," aiming to uphold family, marriage, and national traditions.

The Kazakh State Academic Drama Theatre named after Ауэзов will bring Sherhan Murtaza's "Ay and Aisha" to the screens, while the State Republican Academic Uighur Musical Comedy Theatre named after Кужамьяров will feature contemporary drama "Child" by Ilgiz Zayniev and historical drama "Mother's Will" by Durniam Mashurova.

The Republic Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired is hosting an online event titled "Mother – the Light of Life," and the State Museum of Arts named after Кастеев will display a virtual gallery called "The Female Image in Works of Visual Art" on its website.

The Kazakh State Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments named after Курмангазы will present an online cycle of kuy "Aman bol shegem, aman bol." The leading theaters, "Astana Opera" and the GATOB named after Абая, will mark Mother's Day with a Gala-opera and a Parade of Baritones.

In previous years, Mother's Day celebrations might have seen family gatherings, gift-giving, and special events, but with the pandemic, many people are getting creative and keeping celebrations digital. Expect similar themes of family, respect, and gratitude, with potential adaptations to adhere to public health guidelines during the pandemic. Happy Mother's Day, everyone!

On the virtual realm, family-dynamics are set to thrive as everyone adapts their lifestyle for the online Mother's Day events on September 20. Amidst digital celebrations, home-and-garden decorations might not be physical, but the intentional acts of love and the warm atmosphere created will be as meaningful as ever. Relationships, strengthened by these unique experiences, will undeniably stand the test of time.
