Learn to Harvest Rainwater & Green Roofs for Sustainability on Oct 7
Join us on October 7, 2025, at 6:30 PM at the Volkshochschule Bad Salzuflen (Hermannstraße 32) for an insightful lecture by Matthias Ansbach, an energy advisor from the North Rhine-Westphalia Consumer Center. The event, part of the Biodiversity and Climate Change Adaptation Action Week, is free and open to homeowners, builders, and anyone interested in sustainable construction and energy saving.
Ansbach will delve into the practical aspects of equipping buildings with rainwater storage systems, focusing on their combination with green roofs. He will explain how rainwater, collected from roof gutters and stored in tanks or cisterns, can be used effectively in private households for toilet flushing, garden irrigation, and washing machines, saving both water and energy.
Green roofs, apart from providing space for solar modules, also improve the microclimate and allow rainwater collection. Ansbach will discuss how these roofs, when combined with photovoltaics, can increase property value and enhance the efficiency of PV modules due to the cooling effect. He will also cover suitable plants, costs, funding opportunities, and legal requirements for this combination.
Attendees will learn how to transform rooftops into green climate oases, collect and use rainwater effectively, and combine photovoltaics with green roofs for a sustainable and efficient future.
