Maintain the seals' flexibility

In the world of car maintenance, rubber care is an often overlooked but crucial aspect. WD-40 Specialist Silicone Spray, a versatile solution, can be used to care for, clean, protect, and lubricate rubber, metal, plastic, and wood both on your car and around the house, garden, or hobby. Available in 100, 300, or 400 ml cans, this all-purpose product is a valuable addition to any garage.

When it comes to applying rubber care products, it's essential to work on as dust-, water-, and grease-free seals as possible. Manufacturers recommend a short waiting time for optimal results, during which the doors should remain open. Depending on the product, excess care product should be wiped off with a clean cloth afterwards.

Glycerin, a synthetic substance, is another common ingredient in rubber care products. It protects the rubber from drying out and provides moisture for elasticity. For metal folding roofs on convertibles, rubber care should be applied to the seals between the segments (if accessible).

Sonax Tire Care Stick with Deer Tallow (18 g) is a popular choice for cleaning and protecting rubber seals on car tires. Its counterpart, Sonax Tire Care with Sponge Applicator (100 ml), is designed for sensitive rubber seals on car tires. Both products should be applied using circular movements.

Liqui Moly Tire Care (75 ml) is another option for cleaning and caring for rubber seals on car tires, refreshing their colour. Nirgin Tire Care Spray (300 ml) is used to prevent premature aging of rubber seals on car tires and also to clean and care for rubber hoses in the engine compartment.

While some people opt for natural alternatives like beeswax or coconut oil to care for their car's rubber seals, it's important to test these products on a small area first to ensure they don't damage the rubber.

Rubber care products are primarily applied to rubber parts such as door seals, window seals, antenna gaskets, and other rubber weatherstrips to maintain flexibility, prevent drying and cracking, and ensure proper sealing. They should be applied to front and rear door seals, trunk seals (including tailgate or trunk lid and separate rear window), window seals, sunroof seals, and convertible seals that come into contact with windows or panels.

Silicone is a common ingredient in rubber care products, forming a thin, water-repellent film on car seals to protect and keep them looking new for longer. Sesam Glycerin Silicone Stick for Rubber Care (3 x 50 ml), equipped with a sponge applicator, is another useful tool for cleaning and protecting rubber seals on car tires.

It's worth noting that rubber care is not intended for cleaning and caring for tires, as they often contain oils or silicones that reduce grip on the road. Some universal car cleaners contain ingredients that care for rubber seals, but it's important to ensure material compatibility or care properties before purchase.

Hirschtalg, a natural fat, is mainly used in care sticks but does not completely penetrate the rubber and requires wiping off. Rubber care products come in three forms: as a stick, spray, or liquid with an applicator.

By taking the time to care for your car's rubber seals, you can extend their lifespan, improve the overall appearance of your vehicle, and ensure a smooth, quiet ride.
