Merlin Verlag Marks 60 Years with Grand Anniversary Celebration

Merlin Verlag, a renowned publisher based in Gifkendorf, Lüneburger Heide, celebrated its 60th anniversary with a grand event on the Gifkendorf estate. The milestone was marked by industry colleagues, artists, booksellers, authors, and neighbors, who gathered to honour the publishing house's rich history and ongoing commitment to literature and art.

Founded by Andreas J. Meyer in 1962, the publisher will celebrate its founder's 90th birthday in December. Throughout its six decades, Merlin Verlag has established itself as a significant force in the publishing world, with a focus on theater, art, and books. Its art pillar, in particular, has been strengthened through connections to the Rixdorfer artist collective since the 1960s.

The anniversary event featured readings by Maximilian Meyer-Bretschneider and Lara Feith, who delved into the theme of freedom through the works of authors like Jean Genet and Fouad Laroui. Guests were also treated to a display of book art in the publisher's house gallery, including notable pieces such as Horst Janssen's 'Anmerkungen zum Grundgesetz' and Johannes Grützke's 'Im Watt'.

The Merlin warehouse, housing a collection of intellectual history, was open for guests to explore. The event was a testament to the publisher's dedication to preserving and promoting cultural heritage.

Merlin Verlag's anniversary celebration was a resounding success, highlighting the publisher's enduring commitment to its publishing pillars and the cultural landscape. With its cooperative book logistics system with neighboring bookseller Anne-Grete Patz in Bienenbüttel, ensuring efficient delivery and no empty runs, Merlin Verlag continues to look towards the future while honoring its past.
