Over 80 reading advocates, educators, and storytellers convened in Iloilo City, Philippines for the annual Book Nook Conference 2025. The event, organised by the National Book Development Board (NBDB), aimed to consolidate best practices and challenges faced by area coordinators of the Book Nook Project, an epic books initiative launched in 2021 to tackle the country's reading crisis.

The conference, held in Iloilo City, featured sessions on strengthening and digitalising Book Nook services, as well as developing literary engagements. Participants visited the National Museum of the Philippines and conducted storytelling sessions at the Book Nook Nabitasan Integrated School in Barangay La Paz. NBDB Executive Director Charisse Aquino-Tugade emphasised the project's commitment to making quality books accessible in remote areas. The Book Nook Project, believing access to books is a basic human right, aims to foster a love of reading among young people.

The conference urged collaboration among reading space advocates to address the country's reading gap. Since its launch, the Book Nook Project has established over 100 reading spaces across the Philippines, with more sites planned for this year. Workshops focused on building sustainable community reading spaces and leveraging digital platforms for wider reach.
