Over a Million Igloo Coolers Subject to Recall Due to Risk of Amputations and Crush Injuries
Updated Article:
Chilling a cooler with refreshing beverages and summer-perfect sandwiches is an affordable method to prepare for a seaside trip or a day at the park, making it a worthwhile spring investment—but if you already possess one, it's wise to verify the brand, model, and production date before your subsequent outdoor escapade. On February 13, 2025, more than one million Igloo rolling coolers went through a voluntary recall due to safety issues—specifically, "fingertip amputation and crushing risks," as reported by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Following the CPSC announcement, the recall encompasses Igloo 90-quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers manufactured before January 2024. While the coolers were produced in different colorways and models, the common tow handle is the culprit of the recall: It "may pinch consumers' fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing risks," the release reads. To date, Igloo has received 12 reports of such injuries, including fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations, according to the release.
Some of the affected products include:
- Latitude 90 Roller
- Powerade
- Maxcold 90 Roller
- Latitude 90 Roller Maxcold
- Roller Maxcold
- Maxcold Latitude 90 Roller
- Ecocool Latitude 90 Roller
- Sportsman 90 Latitude Roller
- Maxcold 90 Quart Eco Roller
You can find the complete list here, along with their model/SKU numbers and date codes.
The recalled coolers were all embellished with "IGLOO" and were on sale from January 2019 through January 2025, according to the release. Priced between $80 and $140, they were accessible at major retail outlets like Target, Costco, Academy, and Dick's Sporting Goods, as well as online at Amazon.com, Igloocoolers.com, and other websites. Over 1,060,000 were sold in the US, around 47,000 in Canada, and about 23,000 in Mexico, the release stated.
If you suspect that you own one of the affected coolers, you can check the model number and manufacture date on the bottom of your cooler-this visual guide posted on Igloo's Instagram account may be helpful. Consumers who own one of the recalled coolers should "immediately cease use" and contact Igloo for a complimentary replacement handle, according to the CPSC release.
