OVO Energy Unveils £56m Support Package for Struggling Customers
OVO Energy has announced a £56m support package to assist vulnerable customers struggling with soaring energy bills. The package includes financial assistance and energy-saving products, with eligible customers set to benefit from Direct Debit reductions, emergency credit top-ups, and extended repayment plans. OVO is not alone in offering such support, with other providers like Octopus Energy and British Gas also stepping in to help customers in need.
OVO's Extra Support Package will provide free heated throws to those who need them most. Additionally, eligible customers can receive energy-efficient upgrades such as new boilers or heat pumps, along with energy-saving products like electric throws, home efficiency kits, and smart sockets. These measures aim to reduce energy consumption and lower bills.
The energy crisis has led to a significant increase in fuel poverty, with nine million households now struggling to afford their energy bills, a 62% rise since 2020. OVO has already provided £190m worth of customer support since 2022, helping 42,000 customers last year. To be eligible for OVO's latest support package, customers must be facing difficulties paying their bills and provide relevant details. OVO works with the charity partner National Energy Action (NEA) to implement the social tariff, ensuring support reaches those most in need.
With Ofgem announcing a further increase in energy bills this month, OVO's commitment to supporting vulnerable customers is more crucial than ever. The £56m Extra Support Package is set to make a significant difference to those struggling with their energy costs, providing both financial assistance and practical measures to reduce consumption. OVO's efforts are part of a wider industry response to the energy crisis, with other providers also offering support systems to help customers through these challenging times.
