Hop on Board for the 10th Anniversary Bash of National Park Hunsrück-Hochwald!

Get ready for a wild celebration! The National Park Hunsrück-Hochwald turns 10 this weekend, and we're throwing an unforgettable party. Kick things off on Saturday at 10:00 AM with an official opening by top politicians, including the Rhineland-Palatinate Minister-President Alexander Schweitzer (SPD), the Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of the Environment Katrin Eder (Greens), and the Saarland Minister of the Environment Petra Berg (SPD).

Expect a whole lot of live music, breathtaking hikes, and guided tours over the weekend. On Saturday, join the festivities at the National Park Gate Erbeskopf. On Sunday and Monday, catch the action at the National Park Gate Keltenpark in Nonnweiler-Otzenhausen, Saarland, where rangers and national park guides will showcase some stunning nature experiences.

Established in 2015 during Pentecost, the national park spans a massive area of 10,000 hectares, with roughly 90% in Rhineland-Palatinate and 10% in Saarland. At its inception, the wilderness area comprised just 25%. The aim was to raise that to 75% by 2045. But it looks like they might just reach that target a whole decade earlier – by 2030! According to the Ministry of the Environment, we’re in for quite the wilderness adventure.

Want to know more about conservation efforts around the park? Keep your eyes peeled for projects in nearby areas, such as Soonwald, where initiatives are underway to boost water retention, supporting the broader ecological goals of such protected areas. These projects involve extensive research and collaboration among various institutions, emphasizing their commitment to environmental conservation.
