Crowd-led partying disrupts peace in Görlitzer Park for local residents - Party-goers in Görlitzer Park are facing discomfort due to recurring gatherings and celebrations

In the heart of Berlin-Kreuzberg, Görlitzer Park has become a hot topic of discussion due to the continuous, extremely loud techno parties that have been registered as demonstrations. The Berlin Senate, in response to complaints from residents and the "KreuzbergForAll" resident group, has initiated measures to curb the noise pollution, prevent trash and environmental damage, and ensure public safety.

The planned fence and park closure aim to address the uninhabitable conditions for neighbours due to penetrating, extremely loud bass from the parties. The grass in the park is turning into a sand desert, and the continuous large-scale events are causing significant damage.

The techno parties are allegedly attracting young people from all over Berlin and young tourists, which has led to concerns about public safety and the potential for increased drug trafficking and violent crime. The Senate hopes that the fence and park closure at night will help address these issues.

However, some demonstrators argue that they are exercising their right to demonstrate and that the usual conditions for music events should not apply. The recent actions, such as the "FREE GÖRLI: Rave against the Zaun" on July 19th, 2025, indicate a cultural and political dimension to these gatherings.

Residents have voiced concerns about noise pollution, public safety, environmental impact, and community engagement and division. The continuous large-scale events can disrupt daily life, increase the risk of accidents or conflicts, lead to increased litter, and potentially divide the community.

Construction of the fence is ongoing, but the park closure is not yet in effect. As the situation develops, it is essential to strike a balance between respecting the rights of demonstrators and addressing the valid concerns of local residents.

  1. The Berlin Senate, in light of the community's concerns regarding noise pollution, public safety, and environmental damage, is considering revising both the community policy and employment policy to ensure that Görlitzer Park can be enjoyed as a tranquil, home-and-garden-like space, rather than a stage for continuous techno parties that may lead to lifestyle choices associated with home-and-garden neglect and social-media debates.
  2. As entertainment choices in Berlin continuously evolve, the ongoing dispute over Görlitzer Park serves as a reminder of the importance of engaging in open, constructive dialogues about balancing the rights of demonstrators with the needs and well-being of the local community. This extends beyond the realms of music events, thus impacting the overall lifestyle and social dynamics of the city.
